I'm really heated. I've been reading all this shit about how people are pissed off at the TWU for going on this strike... I just exploded at Steve (sorry buddy) but I am just really upset.
I don't have the time to go into this as much as I'd like, so I'm just going to copy and paste:
"
i completely disagree. if you knew how bad the workers were treated.. whatever i'm all for them. just because it's an inconvenience to you, big whoop. I've been spending nights at friends' houses in the city and walking a gajillion blocks to work but I'm not gonna sit there and suck my teeth because people are trying to get what they deserve.
the media is doing their damn best to get rid of supporters for the union though. The all loveable super duper republican channel Fox started to call it the "ILLEGAL strike of 2005"... suggesting shit like "What the union THINKS they deserve" etc etc. First off, what the fuck is the point in having a union if having strikes are illegal? It's making the MTA stop and understand how important the MTA is to the city's well being, realizing that happy workers = seamless economy. The MTA has been messing with us and they've been spending their surpluses on dumb shit, paying loads of money to their corporate employees for no reason, and now we're going to act like they're the good guy in all of this? Have you ever WORKED in a job where you've been exploited? Taken advantage of? You grumbled and griped about how they rose their fare prices to ridiculous numbers, how they're getting rid of the turnstiles no matter how inconvenient it would be -- they're pulling a tobacco company type of shit (They need us so we can raise the prices and they can't do anything hardee fuckin har har)...
If you've ever taken the time to have a conversation with your bus driver or any MTA worker on their break... they are unhappy, underpaid people. Fuckin ride a bike or hitchhike, don't feed into this bullshit, support them so that the MTA can agree to shit and this can all be over with. Damn." |
